Dancin Tulips, 2025
Acrylic paint on bleached conch shell
Commissioned Piece
“Dancin’ Tulips” was a commissioned piece featuring a shell with a rich dark green background, adorned with dotted leaves that create a sense of movement and vitality. In the foreground, vibrant tulips are painted in bold brushstrokes, set against a delicate white dotted halo. The halo casts the tulips as the focal point of the piece and enhances their presence.
While tulips are not native to the Bahamas, their symbolism of spring and renewal resonates universally. Native to regions in Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East, tulips represent the beauty of new beginnings and the hope that comes with the changing of seasons. The shell’s lip is a soft pinkish-peach, with additional tulip designs rendered in a monochromatic dot format, creating a harmonious contrast. The overall design celebrates the beauty and energy of tulips, while the combination of brushstrokes and dots adds depth and rhythm, embodying the freshness and vitality that tulips represent.
